Semen Analysis and Results

When I went to our family doctor for a referral to an OB/GYN, I figured I might as well get a lab requisition for C. There are only two labs in the Vancouver area that will take semen samples. We had to wait about 3 weeks to get our appointment.

We first had to pick up the approved cup from the lab before our test date. We also got a list of instructions to follow.

It was a little bit stressful to time it properly. We lived about 10 minutes away from the lab, and we needed to make sure we had enough time to collect the sample, but not too early. In the end, we made it to the lab on time, however, when we got our results, it said that it took the lab 2 hours before they examined the sample.

We got pretty bad results. C's sample had 2 million sperm, vs. the average of 20 million. Motility was low, morphology was also bad. We attributed it to the time it took the lab to examine the sample.

When we reviewed the results with our doctor, she recommended we redo the test. So again, it took 3 weeks for the appointment. We had to go through the same stresses again. This time it took the lab 1.75 hours to get to the sample. However, the results we got were even worse than the first time. C only had 1 million sperm in this sample, and again, motility and morphology was bad.

Now that we have pinpointed one problem, we can start a treatment plan. While I am still waiting for my appointment with the OB/GYN, we are now also waiting for C's appointment with the urologist.
